"Dear Efrem and Paul,
his letter is way overdue. Our only excuse is that we have been busy enjoying the superb results of our extended, two phase remodel. We wanted you to know how much we appreciate your major contribution to making our house into our dream house. You an Paul were a pleasure to work with in what often is a very stressful situation. As you recall, we undertook a top to bottom remodel of our 30 year old home and broke it into two phases so we could live in the house during the construction.
We can't itemize every time you suggested changes that resulted in significant improvements in appearance and/or structure as compared to the original plans: things as varied as increasing the dimensions of the lookouts under the eaves, the finish molding on the staircase and in the entrance hall, the electric outlets and switches hidden under the upper kitchen cabinets, the beautiful cherry valance that covers the drapery rods in the family room; and many, many more details that contributed to the exceptional results.
You listened to us during the bidding and quotation process. We said we wanted quality products, fixtures, and details. Your bid included all of these; the allowances were adequate to accommodate top-of-the-line elements, from stone to tile, to cabinetry. Change orders were not a disaster. Your charges were more than fair and you never carped over the trouble they caused to your schedule or work load. We always felt that you recognized that this was our HOME you were working on and that even little things were important to us.
We were really impressed with your critique of your own work and your honesty. On the few occasions where something did not turn out exactly perfect, you noticed it even before we did and corrected it without our even mentioning it.
Your reputation for superb finish work is well deserved. Visitors to our home constantly comment on the superb detail of the trim work throughout the house. Paul's idea for covering the closet sliding door hardware by building a false crown molding and the ingenious way you extended the trim from the hallway through the entrance hall come to mind.
We were so please with the way the first phase of this project turned out that there was no hesitancy on our part in asking you to help with the second phase. We did not think we needed to get other bids or quotes. We looked forward to working with you again.
As we have since the completion of our project, we would be happy to serve as one of your reference for anyone that wants to know how it is to work with you or what kind of quality to expect at th end of the job. "Paul and Efrem,,
My friend... was amazed that you were here to check on the doors, she said her contractor would never have done that. I told her you always did that kind of thing and she said I needed to tell everyone that, because it isn't typical. So I wanted to pass that on to you.
I also asked her why she didn't choose you guys to do her house and she said that they wished they had. At the time it was a difficult choice, but the other bid they had was more detailed so they thought it might be more accurate. Turns out it was not and she said her contractor didn't use the highest quality products that he could have (doors, windows, etc.) so they had to add on the bid later, whereas you assumed that we would want the high-quality products so we didn't have that problem. Finally, she said she wishes the book you had shown them showed more traditional houses, because she wasn't sure that their taste was like what you had done in the past. I too remember thinking that some of the houses were not reflective of what I thought I wanted, so maybe that is something you could reassure people about too -- that you have done all typed of styles and houses and you never impose a particular style on a house, but do whatever the homeowner wants. I remember you telling me this, but somehow she didn't get the message, so maybe others are not either.
Anyways, I also called my friend Ellen to tell her that you were here checking on things and told her she should hire you. I hope it works out. "
